Museum Connections 2022 | “Social Impact: Engaging with Older Adults”

description

The 2022 Museum Connections Conference was held in Paris from March 30-31. This conference brought together museum and arts professionals to discuss the role that museums play towards improving the lives of older adult communities by decreasing social isolation, combating ageism, and fostering intergenerational dialogue.

In this 1-hour panel discussion, Lifetime Arts’ Maura O’Malley discussed Lifetime Arts’ role in the creative aging field, introducing museum leaders to the growing research and studies behind the field, the social and health benefits of creative aging programming for older adults, ageism barriers in this work and how to dismantle negative stereotypes around aging, and Lifetime Arts’ partnerships with museums across the U.S. Maura also offered strategic considerations for museum leaders looking to expand their offerings via creative aging programming.

Maura was joined by the following panelists:

  • Patrick Barbeyron, Responsable Programme Art, Culture et Alzheimer Paris, France Alzheimer
  • Hélène Clari, Directrice des missions sociales, France Alzheimer
  • Florence Brachet Champsau, Cheffe du service patrimoine et mécénat, SNCF
  • Cathelijne Denekamp, Manager of Accessibility/Inclusion, Rijksmuseum

In the video, Maura’s introduction starts at 6:40 and ends at 17:30. She follows with a Q&A session from 53:30 to 1:00:26.
