Age UK is a multi-faceted national agency that carries out advocacy, research, and programs to advance the quality of life for older residents of the UK. It has created the Index of Wellbeing, “a new way to measure wellbeing in later life.” The Age UK site offers a Summary of the Index that can be downloaded and explains the research process. One of the “most surprising” findings is that of the four major factors that affect wellbeing in later life, Creativity and Cultural Participation is the single most important fact. The other factors are Physcial Activity, Thinking Skills (Memory, attention, language) and Meaningfull Engagement.
