description
The Photography and Memory Project is a four-year initiative of the Denver Art Museum, Denver University (DU), and the Denver Public Library that brought DU students and older adults together to exchange personal snapshots and the stories behind them.
Periodic meetings were held at the Public Library and an exhibit was presented at the Art Museum. The collaborative project was unusual as a sustained joint initiative between three local institutions, one that offered a relatively simple but effective means of overcoming age segregation and its attendant assumptions and stereotypes about other generations. Amy DelPo, Director of older adult services at the library, stated:
“The photos and stories created a bridge between people of different ages, races, genders, identities, and backgrounds. They broke down barriers and illuminated commonalities. They turned strangers into friends.”
