Impact of Creative Drama Training on Psychological States of Older Adults: An Exploratory Study

description

The benefits of creative drama as an arts activity for older adults were explored in a 17-session drama workshop. Verbal samples, provided by participants after each midweek workshop session, were content-analyzed to examine changes over time in four psychological states, using the Gottschalk and Glesser scales. Results showed downward trends in anxiety and one measure of hostility, but no definitive trends emerged for the hope and human relations variables. The study lays a foundation for further cross-disciplinary research involving arts/humanities and the social/behavioral sciences.
