description
The Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford (UK) has operated Meet Me at the Museum since 2016. A pilot program at first, it was co-designed with initial participants. The program brings community living older people together, some with dementia, for behind-the-scenes access to the Museum’s collections. The goals are to foster social connections and to create “opportunities for new conversations and learning together.” The program operates with cooperative input from local organizations such as Age UK and City Arts (Nottingham).
As a result of learning about and discussing collections, the Meet Me at the Museum teams have co-produced displays, created animations, documented objects with iPad images, created an app of favorite artifacts, and built new relationships.
